Baseball Game Preview: De Pere Redbirds vs. Ashwaubenon Jaguars

The De Pere Redbirds will venture away from home to square off against the Ashwaubenon Jaguars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. De Pere's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Ashwaubenon's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Thursday, De Pere made easy work of Sheboygan North and carried off an 11-1 victory. The Redbirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Mason Sequin, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Ashwaubenon ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-2 win over Pulaski. Surprisingly, this marked the Jaguars' sixth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Ian Aoki was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Ashwaubenon's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Aoki was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Aoki wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Moxson Kernz, who went 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI. Zak Bellile also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

De Pere's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Ashwaubenon, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-7 record this season.
