Softball Recap: Cherokee's Losing Streak Snapped at Five Games

After low-scoring totals in their previous five contests, Cherokee brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They put the hurt on the Covenant Christian Eagles with a sharp 10-1 victory on Tuesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Indians as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Libby Collum made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lydia Wallace, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 matchups. Another player making a difference was Tatum Lockett, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Cherokee's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 7-11. As for Covenant Christian, they dropped their record down to 5-8 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Cherokee will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Shoals Christian at 4:30 p.m. on April 1st. Covenant Christian will also get a bit of a break before their next game: they'll face off against Phil Campbell at 4:30 p.m. on March 31st.
