Hobbton hasn't had much luck against Rosewood recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Hobbton has given up an average of 12.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Hobbton lost 16-1 to North Duplin on Tuesday. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Hobbton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubree McLamb, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Rosewood put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Lakewood. The Eagles blew past the Leopards 19-0. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Skyler Strickland was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Kodee Jensen was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Vernon, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Rosewood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Rosewood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Hobbton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hobbton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Rosewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Hobbton suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Rosewood in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
