Basketball Recap: Mid-Carolina Rebels vs. Ninety Six Wildcats
The Mid-Carolina Rebels had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.4 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They walked away with a 59-47 win over Ninety Six. Winning is a bit easier when you make five more threes than your opponent, as Mid-Carolina did.
BreA Boyd continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 31 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Brooks, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and six assists.
Despite the loss, Ninety Six still got an impressive performance from Janiyah Squire, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 17 rebounds. Squire has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last eight times she's played. Olivia Coster was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Mid-Carolina pushed their record up to 14-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Ninety Six, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5.
Mid-Carolina will take on the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Ninety Six focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Tuesday. As for they, they will head out on the road to take on Mid-Carolina at 6:00 p.m. Mid-Carolina's defense has only allowed 26.2 points per game this season, so the Wildcats' offense will have their work cut out for them.
