5A Region IV District 32 recap Sept. 26, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Veterans Memorial, who took down 349th ranked Veterans Memorial, 36-29. Jaedon Taylor ran for 148 yards and caught two passes for 32 yards in the win.

Jonmichael Rosales and Brandon Colon provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Rivera. The longest such play in 5A Region IV District 32 this season, the connection resulted in 77 yards.

Los Fresnos's dynamic duo of Rosales and Colon proved tough for the Raiders to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Rosales threw for 378 yards and three touchdowns and Colon had 142 yards receiving. Jaime Mata helped Los Fresnos' passing attack out by catching five balls for 88 yards.

Gus Sierra made the biggest impact on defense this week as Harlingen South beat the Chargers. The defensive end recorded one fumble.

The Falcons' Rosales and Mata have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Rosales has thrown for 852 yards this season, while Mata has 20 catches for 322 yards. Taylor from the Hawks leads the league in rushing with 514 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Veterans Memorial takes on Hanna. At the moment, David Cantu's team is in first, while the Eagles are in seventh.

Harlingen was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to fifth in 5A Region IV District 32. The Cardinals vanquished Lopez 48-21 earlier in the week.
