Softball Preview: Mineral Wells Rams vs. Brownwood Lions
The Mineral Wells Rams will venture away from home to face off against the Brownwood Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mineral Wells is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
Mineral Wells fell victim to Brock and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 10-0 to the Eagles. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Rams haven't been shut out since back in February.
Meanwhile, Brownwood hadn't done well against Glen Rose recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Lions were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Tigers. The Lions not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 27th.
Kaydence Allen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hanah Campos, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jakayla Peek, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Brownwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
