The El Camino Wildcats will take on the Oceanside Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. El Camino is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
El Camino blew San Dieguito Academy out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday San Dieguito Academy got their revenge. The Wildcats fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 7-5. The Wildcats' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Kaylani Feliciano-Taele made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kailey Dain, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, Oceanside beat Vista 8-4 on Tuesday. That looming 8-4 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Pirates yet this season.
Drew Larsen was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Seaven Fuimaono was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Oceanside hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive contests.
Oceanside's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-10. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for El Camino, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 13-7.
Oceanside's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: El Camino has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Oceanside, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given El Camino's sizable advantage in that area, the Pirates will need to find a way to close that gap.
El Camino came out on top in a nail-biter against Oceanside in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, sneaking past 8-7. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
