VI Section V (8 Man) recap September 24, 2013
Gilbert Christian added to the longest winning streak in VI Section V (8 Man) this week by beating San Pasqual Valley, 85-20. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Knights.
Gilbert Christian led the league in scoring this week after putting up 85 points on the Warriors.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Mesa Prep's Nick Staloch and Jackson Ventrella have proven to be a lethal combination. Staloch has thrown for 1,194 yards this season, while Ventrella has 32 catches for 554 yards. Larry Cain's team's Andrew Sherman leads the league in rushing yards with 474.
The most important game in VI Section V (8 Man) this week will be the match up between the MONSOONS and Ajo. Mesa Prep comes into the matchup ranked 14th in the state, while the Red Raiders ranks 23rd.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Gila Bend takes on San Pasqual Valley. The Gila Monsters have allowed 66 points this season, while the Warriors have given up 85. Gila Bend allowed 30 points last week as it topped Ajo.
The longest pass in the league this week was acheived by Amy Arnold's team's Staloch. The MONSOONS fell to Valley Lutheran when he connected with Cameron Labban on a 63-yard pass.
