Baseball Recap: Sutherland Knights vs. Mendon Vikings

Sutherland extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 7-5 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mendon Vikings. That's two games in a row now that the Knights have lost by just one run.

As for Mendon, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

For Mendon's part, Ethan Postle tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Postle has posted since back in April.

On the hitting side, Noah Sansone was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Albanese, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Coming up, Sutherland is taking a road trip to square off against Greece Olympia/Greece Odyssey at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Mendon, they will welcome Canandaigua Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
