Softball Recap: Zeeland West Now 12-2 over Last 14 Games

Zeeland West hadn't done well against Grand Haven recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Dux came out on top in a nail-biter against the Buccaneers, sneaking past 6-4. For the Dux, this counts as revenge for the 4-2 win the Buccaneers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Madison Wyckoff made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddi Veersma, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

Zeeland West has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Grand Haven, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.

Zeeland West will head out on the road to square off against Zeeland East at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Grand Haven does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
