Baseball Recap: Overfelt Comes Up Short

After flying high against San Jose on Tuesday, Overfelt came back down to earth. The Royals took a 13-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs on Thursday. The Royals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 11-1.

BRANDON GONZALEZ put in work no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Overfelt: the team is 6-3 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, HUGO JERONIMO was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of ALFREDO GALLEGOS MEDINA, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Overfelt has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for San Jose, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-11.

Overfelt wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 14-4 defeat against Silver Creek on the 18th. As for San Jose, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 25-1 loss against Lincoln on the 18th.
