Volleyball Recap: Avery County Vikings vs. Owen Warhorses
Avery County lost against Owen back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Vikings came up short against the Warhorses, falling 3-0. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Avery County was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-22, 25-20.
Caroline Hollifield paced Avery County's offense, picking up six kills. Hollifield got some help from Hallie Johnson and her 11 assists. Kesleigh Krege controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Owen to victory, but perhaps none more so than Avery Boone, who had 11 digs and one assist. Boone has been hot, having posted 11 or more digs the last five times she's played.
Avery County suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 4-3. As for Owen, they pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avery County will square off against West Caldwell at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Owen, they will challenge Mitchell at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
