Baseball Game Preview: Madison Warhawks vs. La Jolla Vikings

The Madison Warhawks will head out to challenge the La Jolla Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Madison's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so La Jolla's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Things were looking good for Madison after they put the first points on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of La Jolla Country Day by a score of 4-3.

Jeremiah Jennings was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, Jack O'Toole was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for La Jolla, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 win over San Dieguito Academy on Wednesday. The one-run effort marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

La Jolla's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Kestler, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

La Jolla's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Madison, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Madison beat La Jolla 7-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Madison since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
