Baseball Game Preview: Van Nuys Wolves vs. Canyon Cowboys

The Van Nuys Wolves will venture away from home to square off against the Canyon Cowboys at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Canyon took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Van Nuys, who comes in off a win.

Van Nuys was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Reseda on Monday. Everything went Van Nuys' way against Reseda as Van Nuys made off with a 15-5 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Wolves have posted since April 18, 2024.

Joel Enciso and Enzo Enciso were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Enciso struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Enzo pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts Joel has posted since back in March of 2024. At the plate, Enciso scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5, while Enzo scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Matthew Herrera was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. Anthony Navarro was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Canyon's offense. They lost 8-0 to Trinity Classical Academy on Thursday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Cowboys' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Canyon's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Van Nuys, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
