Baseball Game Preview: Columbus Discoverers vs. Omaha Westside Warriors

Columbus hasn't had much luck against Omaha Westside recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Discoverers will face off against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m.

Columbus fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Norris on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Titans by a score of 8-7. The Discoverers' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it six in a row.

Columbus saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Cameron, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Carter Renteria also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Omaha Westside not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 16, 2024. They blew past Lincoln Southeast 8-0. The victory was some much needed relief for the Warriors as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Harry Yeager tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jack Schulz, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Tagge, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Omaha Westside's win bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Columbus, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Columbus skirted past Omaha Westside 3-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Discoverers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
