Monticello is 2-7 against Maroa-Forsyth since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Sages will venture away from home to take on the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Monticello had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Sullivan on Tuesday. The Sages were the clear victors by a 14-5 margin over the Redskins. The Sages haven't had any issues with the Redskins recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Madison Highland made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sadie Walsh, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. Ali Weidner was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Monticello kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Maroa-Forsyth, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They blew past Riverton 19-3 on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Trojans needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Adelyn Simmons was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Maggie Ravenscraft also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Maroa-Forsyth's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-8. As for Monticello, their record now sits at 20-5.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Monticello hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .372. However, it's not like Maroa-Forsyth struggles in that department as they've averaged .312. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Monticello took their victory against Maroa-Forsyth in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sages since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
