Basketball Game Preview: Monticello Mustangs vs. Orange County Fighting Hornets

The Monticello Mustangs will square off against the Orange County Fighting Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Monticello will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating Western Albemarle, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Monticello strolled past Western Albemarle with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 46-32. The win was all the more spectacular given the Mustangs' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while the Warriors are ranked 46th).

Meanwhile, Orange County didn't have too much trouble with Fluvanna County on Friday as they won 63-46. The victory continues a trend for the Fighting Hornets in their matchups with the Flying Flucos: they've now won three in a row.

Orange County now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Monticello, they pushed their record up to 12-10 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Monticello barely slipped by Orange County when the teams last played back in January, winning 56-55. Does Monticello have another victory up their sleeve, or will Orange County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
