Softball Recap: Greenwood Wins Going Away Against Castleberry

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Greenwood brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. Everything went their way against the Castleberry Lions on Thursday as the Greenwood Rangers made off with a 15-1 win. That looming 15-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Rangers yet this season.

Addison Arredondo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, Hannah Zarate was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in triples. Another player making a difference was Mae Savage, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Greenwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory snapped Greenwood's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-6 record. As for Castleberry, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6-1 record this season.

Greenwood will square off against Rouse at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Castleberry, they will challenge Glenn at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Castleberry has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
