Football Recap: Yianni Balafas' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Kent Denver over Elizabeth

Despite a strong season so far, Kent Denver has seen their luck take a bit of a downturn recently. They took a 46-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elizabeth Cardinals on Friday. Despite 56 more yards than the Cardinals, the Sun Devils couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Several Sun Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Yianni Balafas, who threw for 435 yards and five TDs while completing 72.5% of his passes, and also rushed for 45 yards. Kent Denver's leading receiver Colton Meade was Balafas' top target yet again, picking up 190 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Griffin Widhalm went supernova For Elizabeth., rushing for 104 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan McCray, who rushed for 82 yards and three TDs.

Kent Denver's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Elizabeth, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.

Kent Denver has already played their next contest, a 48-14 victory against Lamar on the 8th. As for Elizabeth, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 44-38 win against Pagosa Springs on the 8th.
