Basketball Game Preview: El Dorado Aztecs vs. Horizon Scorpions

El Dorado is 2-7 against Horizon since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The El Dorado Aztecs will head out on the road to face off against the Horizon Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. Horizon took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on El Dorado, who comes in off a win.

El Dorado will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Bel Air, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. El Dorado skirted past Bel Air 56-53.

Meanwhile, Horizon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were beaten by Del Valle 72-37. While losing is never fun, the Scorpions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1354th, while the Conquistadores are ranked 533rd).

El Dorado's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-13. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Horizon, their loss dropped their record down to 5-18.

Everything came up roses for El Dorado against Horizon in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 63-30 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for El Dorado since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
