Softball Game Preview: Appoquinimink Jaguars vs. Odessa Ducks

Appoquinimink has won ten straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Odessa has won ten straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Jaguars will host the Ducks at 4:00 p.m. Appoquinimink's pitching crew has only allowed 0.7 runs per game this season, so Odessa's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Appoquinimink is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Caravel Academy, who was ranked fourth at the time (Appoquinimink was ranked fifth). The Jaguars narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Buccaneers 3-1.

Meanwhile, Odessa was able to grind out a solid win over Middletown on Tuesday, taking the game 13-9.

Odessa has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.9 runs over those games. As for Appoquinimink, their win bumped their record up to 14-0.

Everything went Appoquinimink's way against Odessa in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Appoquinimink made off with a 6-0 victory. Do the Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Ducks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
