Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Chaminade was not quite Notre Dame (SO)'s equal in the second half on Friday. They took a 27-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights.
Chaparral will have to keep a close watch on Cameron Blackman and Marquis Jones, a pair of players who had a big impact on Chaminade's prior game. Chaminade is 3-1 when Blackman posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 2-4 otherwise.
While Chaminade came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Notre Dame (SO): they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 44.8%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Josiah Rand, Bryan Granger-Narcisse, and Elijah Williams, who each logged one passes deflected. Chaminade is 1-3 when they limit the passing game like that.
Chaminade's defense didn't let Wyatt Brown, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. Leading the way was Michael Bonnet with two. Chaminade got some further help from Ronnell Hewitt: he picked up a sack and made ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Chaparral's record is now 5-5. As for Chaminade, their record now sits at an identical 5-5.
The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. Chaparral has relied on air attacks this season and has averaged 270.9 passing yards per game. Chaminade, on the other hand, has relied on a stout run game: they average 176.9 rushing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
