Softball Recap: Nitro Sets Scoring Season-High Against Wirt County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nitro). They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Wirt County Tigers on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

McKenzie Hyatt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Hyatt was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Karley Evans was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Zoe Hyatt was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Nitro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory (which was Nitro's fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-12. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Wirt County, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Nitro beat the Tigers by a score of 25-10 later that day.
