Basketball Recap: Hayden Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Hayden took on Rangely on Friday. The Hayden Tigers fell 49-41 to the Rangely Panthers. The Tigers just can't catch a break and have now endured five losses in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Hayden lost, don't look at Jace Bene. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 14 en route to 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Those 18 points gave Bene a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Gioia, who posted three points.

Even though they lost, Hayden smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Rangely's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kacey Allred, who had 12 points and four steals. Marcos Quintana was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds.

Hayden's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Rangely, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.

Hayden wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 57-30 loss against Plateau Valley on the 11th. As for Rangely, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 83-24 victory against Soroco on the 11th.
