Baseball Game Preview: Butler Bulldogs vs. Providence Panthers

Butler is 1-9 against Providence since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Butler Bulldogs will host the Providence Panthers at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Butler 3.7, Providence 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

While Butler's victory against Mallard Creek wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Butler came out on top in a nail-biter against Mallard Creek on Wednesday, sneaking past 8-6. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Mavericks: they've now won five in a row.

Ethan Chryst looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Greyson Sheaffer was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2. Jhanuel Ramos was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Providence was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They fell just short of Charlotte Catholic by a score of 3-2. The loss was the Panthers' first of the season.

Butler pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.3 runs. As for Providence, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-1.

Butler might still be hurting after the 7-1 loss they got from Providence in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Butler avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
