Baseball Game Preview: Newberg Tigers vs. Century Jaguars

For the second straight game, Newberg will face off against Century. The Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Jaguars at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

It was a proper cat-fight when Newberg faced off against Century on Tuesday. The Tigers fell 5-1 to the Jaguars.

For Century's part, Kale Naone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks. Naone has become a key player for the Jaguars: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-13 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Century's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jace Willet, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Willet has hit this season. Another was Lucas Gardner, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Newberg has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-12 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Century, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-14.
