Baseball Game Preview: Century Jaguars vs. McMinnville Grizzlies

Century is 2-8 against McMinnville since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Jaguars will host the Grizzlies at 5:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

On Friday, Century needed a bit of extra time to put away Glencoe. They had just enough and edged out the Crimson Tide 4-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Jaguars.

Kale Naone was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Damien Elizarraras was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for McMinnville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Newberg on Friday, sneaking past 3-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

McMinnville's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Century, their win bumped their record up to 5-8.

Century beat McMinnville 4-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
