2A Region 5 recap Nov. 7, 2012
Reeltown extended the longest winning streak in 2A Region 5 this week by beating Notasulga, 48-12. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Rebels.
Tywone Stewart was the best wideout in the league this week as Reeltown beat the Blue Devils. Stewart racked up one reception for 91 yards. Adam Waldrep helped Reeltown's passing attack out by catching one ball for 60 yards.
Ariko Stewart was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 210 yards on 14 carries as Jackie O'Neal's team topped Notasulga. Stewart also contributed to the rushing game with 111 yards on the ground.
Chase Cheaney put up the best numbers through the air as Horseshoe Bend defeated Central of Coosa County. He finished with 13 completions for 169 yards and one touchdown. Cheaney's favorite target this week was Tyler Meadows, who caught five passes for 76 yards.
Randolph County's Ty Sparks and Willis Knight have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A Region 5 in both passing and receiving yards. Sparks has thrown for 1829 yards this season, while Knight, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 41 catches for 740 yards. Cory Battle from the Generals leads the league in rushing with 1387 yards.
The Tigers' Sparks is within 171 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Woodland.
LaFayette took down Bullock County 47-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
