Recap: Munster Mustangs vs. Kankakee Valley Kougars
The Munster Mustangs came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 62-49 win over Kankakee Valley. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Munster also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.
Munster found their leader in underclassman Gracyn Gilliard, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds and five steals. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Gilliard has scored at least a third of Munster's points. Another player making a difference was Cecilia Mason, who scored seven points along with seven assists and six steals.
Kankakee Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Juliet Starr, who scored 11 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Plummer, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Munster has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. As for Kankakee Valley, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-7 record this season.
Munster will look to defend their home court on Friday against Lake Station Edison at 7:00 p.m. Lake Station Edison will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 194th, while Munster is ranked 44th). As for Kankakee Valley, they will square off against Andrean at TBD on Saturday. Hopefully Andrean focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 last Tuesday.
