Preview: South Texas Christian Academy Panthers vs. First Baptist
After nine games on the road, South Texas Christian Academy is heading back home. They will take on First Baptist at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
On Tuesday, South Texas Christian Academy had to suffer through a rough 69-27 loss at the hands of Macedonian Christian. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points South Texas Christian Academy has scored all season.
South Texas Christian Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Carlos Saenz, who scored 13 points along with four steals, and Jovan Ramirez who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and five steals. That was a full 48.1% of South Texas Christian Academy's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, sadly, First Baptist is still looking for their first win of the season after five matchups. They were beaten by Macedonian Christian 93-12 last Tuesday. While losing is never fun, First Baptist can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1536th, while Macedonian Christian is ranked 607th).
South Texas Christian Academy now has a losing record at 10-11. As for First Baptist, their defeat was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5.
Everything came up roses for South Texas Christian Academy against First Baptist in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 69-39 win. With South Texas Christian Academy ahead 41-15 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
