Baseball Game Preview: Putnam County Panthers vs. St. Bede Bruins

For the second straight game, Putnam County will face off against St. Bede. The Panthers will face off against the Bruins at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Putnam County lost 11-4 to St. Bede on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Bruins: they've now lost three in a row.

For St. Bede's part, Alan Spencer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Spencer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI.

In other batting news, St. Bede let Ranbir Saini and Carson Riva run wild. Saini went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Riva went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Saini a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Stuart McGunnigal, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

The victory (which was St. Bede's fourth in a row) raised their record to 18-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Putnam County, their loss dropped their record down to 16-8.
