Mabry Eason made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mary Madison Kelley, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Zoie Woolfolk, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.
Lafayette was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .370 or higher in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, St. Benedict at Auburndale made easy work of Oxford on Friday and carried off a 10-2 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.
Like Lafayette, St. Benedict at Auburndale also got a great game from a two-way player: Madison Young. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Young has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Sadie Quinteros was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. Khloe Spence also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Lafayette pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for St. Benedict at Auburndale, their record now sits at 11-2.
