Springfield extended their losing streak to seven on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-8. They came up short against the Fairborn Skyhawks, falling 12-4. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Skyhawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2016.
Springfield saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alayna Strayer, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
As for Fairborn, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games.
On Fairborn's side, Mak George and Kalleigh Offill made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, George tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Offill tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. At bat, George went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI, while Offill went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one triple. Those two doubles gave George a new career-high.
In other batting news, Fairborn got a massive performance out of Lillee Walters, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Walters is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Ali Ison was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four runs, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Springfield will face off against Miamisburg at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.11 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fairborn, they will square off against Butler at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
