Baseball Game Preview: Providence Pioneers vs. Jeffersonville Red Devils

The Providence Pioneers will head out on the road to face off against the Jeffersonville Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Providence sitting on three straight victories and Jeffersonville on four.

On Monday, Providence made easy work of South Central and carried off a 15-4 win. Considering the Pioneers have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Gavin Jackson, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Blake Straub was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Providence hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Jeffersonville earned a 5-2 victory over Madison on Monday.

Derrick Haynes was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ryan Crawford, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Providence pushed their record up to 11-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Jeffersonville, their record now sits at 14-8.

Providence suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Jeffersonville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Pioneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
