Baseball Recap: Saugatuck Takes a Loss

Saugatuck had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 8-12 to make it four. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Allegan Tigers. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Trailblazers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Saugatuck saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Henry Mulligan, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double. Mulligan also put up a hit, which was his first of the season.

As for Allegan, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-12. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On Allegan's side, Tyler Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits. Thomas has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on John Dial, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brayden Sternberg, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Saugatuck will challenge Black River at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Allegan, they will take on Kellogg at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
