Baseball Recap: Roncalli Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Roncalli barely beat Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Royals put the hurt on the Braves with a sharp 13-0 win on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Royals, who have now won five matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Collin Ash made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, Rudy Schoettle was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Gio Ardizone, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Roncalli was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory only posted a batting average of .091.

The victory (which was Roncalli's ninth in a row) raised their record to 9-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roncalli will challenge Franklin Central at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, they will head out to challenge Guerin Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
