Baseball Recap: Southview Cougars vs. Napoleon Wildcats

Southview extended their losing streak to eight on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 5-10 in the process. They lost 8-0 to the Napoleon Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 1-0 on Monday.

As for Napoleon, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4-1 record this season. Considering they have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Napoleon's part, the result came thanks to Owen Espinoza's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up eight Ks. Espinoza has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Paul Sausser, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Rubinstein, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.

Southview and Napoleon could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Cougars will face off against Northview at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (415 vs. 187). Meanwhile, Napoleon (ranked 131st) will meet Perrysburg (ranked 42nd) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
