Springfield Township had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the William Penn Charter Quakers on Wednesday. For the Spartans, this counts as revenge for the 6-0 win the Quakers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2023.

Robert Hartman looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Matthew Sokel, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

William Penn Charter is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield Township will face off against Cheltenham at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for William Penn Charter, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Episcopal Academy at 4:00 p.m. on April 11.
