Baseball Game Preview: Mesquite Wildcats vs. O'Connor Eagles

The Mesquite Wildcats will face off against the O'Connor Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. O'Connor took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Mesquite, who comes in off a win.

Mesquite is headed into the contest having just posted their biggest victory since April 10, 2024 on Thursday. They never let Chandler get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won four in a row.

Cooper Joslin looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Bently Sandall was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Gunnar Gift, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, O'Connor came up short against Saguaro on Thursday and fell 9-4.

Braden Schlink made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.

O'Connor's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 1-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 runs over those games. As for Mesquite, the win also got them back to even at 1-1.

Everything went Mesquite's way against O'Connor in their previous meeting back in April of 2015, as Mesquite made off with a 13-1 victory. Does Mesquite have another victory up their sleeve, or will O'Connor turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
