Baseball Recap: Wheaton Academy Comes Up Short

Wheaton Academy came into this matchup off a tough 13-run loss last Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Glenbard East Rams by a score of 4-2 on Thursday. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.

Wheaton Academy got a good showing from Josh Hilde, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hilde has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Wheaton Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Lopatka, who scored a run while going 1-for-1. Lopatka also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Wheaton Academy and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for Glenbard East, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheaton Academy is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will face off against Eau Gallie at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Glenbard East, they will take on Beech at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
