It was a proper cat-fight when Santa Clarita Christian challenged Palmdale Academy Charter School on Thursday. The Cardinals blew past the Jaguars 24-17.
Meanwhile, Faith Baptist entered their tilt with Desert Christian on Thursday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Knights a 12-0 shutout.
Hailey Coronel made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Coronel was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lianna Palacios, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot, having posted three or more RBI the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Opal Thomas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Faith Baptist was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .579. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Faith Baptist's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Santa Clarita Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5-1.
