La Vernia had won six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they bumped up to 9-1 to make it seven. They snuck past the El Campo Ricebirds with a 25-21 victory. La Vernia and El Campo are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Bears will square off against Hidalgo Early College at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for El Campo, they will venture away from home to challenge Calallen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Vladamir Garcia and Ricardo Rodrguez.
