Football Recap: La Vernia Extends Home Winning Streak to Six

La Vernia had won six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they bumped up to 9-1 to make it seven. They snuck past the El Campo Ricebirds with a 25-21 victory. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 155th, while the Ricebirds are ranked 446th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

COOPER NULL produced another solid effort rushing for 107 yards and three TDs. La Vernia also got a significant boost from TY CARTER, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: La Vernia was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 269 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Campo only rushed for 130.

As for El Campo, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-4. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly four points.

El Campo lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Colt Reeve, who threw for 106 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

La Vernia and El Campo are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Bears will square off against Hidalgo Early College at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for El Campo, they will venture away from home to challenge Calallen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Vladamir Garcia and Ricardo Rodrguez.
