Basketball Recap: Maya Takes a Loss

Maya was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Imagine Prep Storm and fell 61-0. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while the Storm are ranked 37th).

Imagine Prep had a senior duo take command as Aaliyah Chacon went 10 of 15 en route to 21 points and Lauryn Hartwell went 6 for 9 on her way to 12 points and seven steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Chacon has scored at least a third of Imagine Prep's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Larai Chacon, who posted five points and six steals.

Maya's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Imagine Prep, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maya has already played their next matchup (against Ridgeline Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Imagine Prep will square off against East Valley Athletes for Christ at 5:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
