Basketball Preview: North Salinas Vikings vs. Gonzales Spartans
North Salinas and the Spartans are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The North Salinas Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Gonzales Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Salinas has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but North Salinas ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Monte Vista Christian 63-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Jaiden Gomez was nothing short of spectacular: he scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. David Jauregui was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, Gonzales was the victim of a tough 74-53 loss at the hands of the Mustangs on Wednesday.
North Salinas' win bumped their record up to 8-13. As for Gonzales, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.
North Salinas strolled past the Spartans in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 71-55. The rematch might be a little tougher for North Salinas since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
