Basketball Recap: Jordan Skiles' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rossville over Sheridan

Rossville lost against Sheridan back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The match between the Rossville Hornets and the Sheridan Blackhawks didn't end well, with the Rossville Hornets falling 74-56. The Hornets were down 57-37 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Rossville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Skiles, who posted 17 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Thiele-Hahn, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 13 points and seven rebounds.

Sheridan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Damon Winston led the charge by going 9 of 11 on his way to 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. Winston is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Caleb Wright, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 19 points in addition to six assists and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Rossville and nudges their season record down to 7-5. As for Sheridan, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rossville will head out to challenge Tri-Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Sheridan, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Delphi Community at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th.
