Baseball Recap: Fowler Comes Up Short

Fowler had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 8-7 to make it five. They came up short against the Pewamo-Westphalia Pirates, falling 14-1. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Eagles, who until this match were averaging 4.07 runs allowed.

As for Pewamo-Westphalia, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. Considering they have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Pewamo-Westphalia's part, the team relied heavily on Carter Wirth, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Wirth has posted since back in April. Brayton Thelen was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Fowler will be playing in front of their home fans against Potterville at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Pewamo-Westphalia, they will head out to take on Ionia at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight.
