Youngker is a perfect 3-0 against La Joya Community since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Youngker will head out on the road to face off against La Joya Community at 3:45 p.m. Youngker has given up an average of 19.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Youngker fell victim to Centennial and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Coyotes, falling 22-0. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Roughriders' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, La Joya Community entered their tilt with Sierra Linda on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Bulldogs 17-3. That's two games straight that the Fighting Lobos have won by exactly 14 runs.
Isabel Soares made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave her a new career-low. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had over her last ten contests.
In other batting news, La Joya Community let Anaya Romero and Mariah Lozano run wild. Romero went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Lozano went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Romero is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last four games she's played. Ashley Radilla Luna also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
La Joya Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.
La Joya Community's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Youngker, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
Youngker was able to grind out a solid win over La Joya Community in their previous matchup back in March of 2019, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Youngker since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
