Recap: Baldwyn Bearcats vs. Wheeler Eagles
The Baldwyn Bearcats had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-39 victory over Wheeler. For Baldwyn, this counts as revenge for the 45-34 loss Wheeler walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2023.
Baldwyn's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ayriah Warren, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Keniah Burt, who scored ten points.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aubree James, who scored ten points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points James has scored all season. Emma Kate Beckham was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Baldwyn's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8. As for Wheeler, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Baldwyn will challenge Booneville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wheeler, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Tremont at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Hopefully Tremont focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Saturday.
