Newark Memorial is a perfect 10-0 against Washington since June of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cougars will host the Huskies at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Newark Memorial took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against American as they made off with a 14-2 victory. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Newark Memorial let Mahlyah Sao and Caitlyn Rose run wild. Sao got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Rose went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Nouvelle Bennett, who went 2-for-3 with three runs.
Newark Memorial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as American only posted an OBP of .391.
Meanwhile, Washington hadn't done well against James Logan recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Huskies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 win over the Colts. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Huskies as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Madison Kong was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ariel Guerra, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
The win got Washington back to even at 6-6. As for Newark Memorial, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Newark Memorial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Washington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Newark Memorial's way against Washington when the teams last played back in May of 2025, as Newark Memorial made off with a 16-0 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Huskies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
