Monroe piles up the points against Columbus

Recap: Monroe Golden Tornadoes vs. Columbus Blue Devils

The Monroe Golden Tornadoes can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They claimed a resounding 64-29 victory over Columbus on the road. The victory was just what Monroe needed coming off of a 69-44 defeat in their prior match.

Leading Monroe to victory were Ciarra Lunsford and Kie'Aundria Acree. Lunsford dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 rebounds, while Acree shot 5-for-8 from deep and dropped a triple-double on 26 points, 12 rebounds, and ten assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which Acree has scored at least a third of Monroe's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Glendalys Harvey, who scored four points along with nine rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Columbus lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alyna Gilbert. Despite the final result, she scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That was a full 37.9% of Columbus' points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Sydney Foster, who scored six points along with five rebounds.

Monroe is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. As for Columbus, their loss dropped their record down to 9-16.

Monroe does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Columbus, they will head out on the road to take on Thomasville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
